Tradewars-Amiga
For Use With C-net Amiga
Written By Jim Holzknecht
Distribution:
The Danger Zone
(502)/448-1155
300/1200/2400
Sysop: The Jaguar
BRIEF HISTORY
=============
Tradewars was originally written by Chris Sherrick several years ago. I
have written an entirely new version for the Amiga (on the inside that is) in
the AREXX language. I have tried to stick to the basic appearance of the
original game, and I feel that I have been somewhat successful. I have worked
off and on throughout about a year's time. I orignally wrote most of this game
in GFA Basic. This was before C-net Amiga was released. There was a local
sysop who wrote his own BBS on the Atari-ST in GFA basic, and I had nothing to
do, so I started to write Tradewars. I was also in a little speed competition
with The Jaguar as he wrote a version for C-net 128. Well, he ended up
winning needless to say. Then he purchased and began to run C-net Amiga. Then,
I was determined to finish my version so he could run it. I bought AREXX and
began to convert the program from the LAME GFA language (kids, don't even think
of buying that piece of garbage). And now, probably over a year later, it is
finally complete.
COMMAND SUMMARY
===============
MAINMENU COMMANDS
=================
A - Attack Ship: this command allows you to attack any ship which is
located in your sector. However, it will not allow you to attack your
fellow team members. You collect credits and holds when you kill someone.
B - Bank: this command allows you to save all those hard-earned credits, and
keep them away from would-be attackers. Be wary about making withdrawls.
There is a steep 15% service charge.
C - Computer: this command takes you to the Computer sub-menu described later
in this file.
D - Display Sector: this command will simply redisplay the current sector
information.
F - Fighters Drop/Pickup: this command allows you to drop any number of
fighters into the sector you are in, or if you have already dropped
fighters, it will pick them all up for you.
G - Gamble: this command allows you to game your credits at 50-50 odds.
I - Info On Your Ship: this command tells you everything about your ship. It
would be wise to check it often to see if you need more fighters.
L - Land On/Create Planet: this command allows you to land on an existing
planet and collect commodities, or even destroy it. If there is no planet
in the sector, you will be able to create and name one of your own for
a mere 10,000 credits.
M - Move: this command allows you to move from one sector to the next. You
can only move into an adjacent sector, and your options will be stated.
P - Port And Trade: this command lets you dock in a port in a sector. You will
be able to buy and sell the three commodities in Class 1, Class 2, Class 3
ports. You will be able to buy holds, fighters, turns, and mines in
Class 0 ports.
Q - Quit: this will save your ship's information and end the game.
S - Drop Sector Mine: if you have one, a sector mine will be dropped in your
current sector. This will damage any ship that enters that sector.
T - Team Menu: this command will take you to the Team sub-menu described later
in this file.
COMPUTER MENU COMMANDS
======================
F - Find Dropped Fighters: this command will make the computer search through
each sector in the universe for fighters belonging to you. It can take
a while, depending on the HD the BBS is run on.
G - Galactic Newspaper: this command will let you see who has played recently
and what has happened in general. It will tell you if a team has been
created or disbanded, if a planet has been created or destroyed, how many
Cabal were killed yesterday, if a player has been deleted, etc.
M - Send Message: this command allows you to send a private message to any
player in the game, or send a message to every one (ALL), which will last
for three days.
P - Port Report: this command will tell you the prices in a Class 0 port, and
the amounts of commodities and the status (buying or selling) of all
others.
Q - Quit: this command will exit the computer to the mainmenu.
R - Rank Players And Teams: this command will examine each player and rank
according to total value. Everything except dropped fighters are taken
into determining the total value of a player. Then all the teams will
be ranked. A teams value is the sum of each member's value.
S - Sector Scanner: this command will allow you to "look" into an adjacent
sector to see what is in there. Use it! You never know when you will run
into 10,000 Cabal fighters!
TEAM MENU COMMANDS
==================
C - Cash Transfer: this command will allow you to transfer Trading Credits to
a team member located in your current sector. He will be notified of the
transfer the next time he/she plays.
D - Disband Team: if you are the Captain of the team, this command will delete
your team from the list and remove all of its members.
F - Fighter Transfer: this command is similar to the "C" command, except that
it allows you to transfer fighters from your ship.
J - Join A Team: this command will allow you to join the team of your choice,
if you know the password to the team.
L - List Teams And Members: this command will list every single team, and all
the members associated with that team.
M - Make(Create) A Team: this command will let you create your own team (if a
slot is available), name it, and set its password. A maximum of 10 teams
are allowed in the game at this time.
N - Change Team Name: this command, if you are the Captain of the team, will
allow you to change the team's name.
P - Change Team Password: this command, if you are the Team Captain, will
allow you to change the password. This is especially useful when you kick
a member out of your team.
Q - Quit Your Team: this command will allow you to quit your team. If you are
the captain, it will disband the team altogether.
R - Remove A Team Member: this command, if you are the Team Captain, will
allow you to remove an unwanted member. Afterwards, be sure to change
the password so he cannot get back in. The member will be notified of
removal the next time he/she plays.
S - Search For Team Members: this command will tell you the whereabouts and
partial status of each of your fellow team members. It will tell you how
many fighters and trading credits they have.
X - Exit To Mainmenu: this command, of course, will take you back to the
mainmenu.
PLANET MENU COMMANDS

available and that your holds can carry.

and that your holds can carry.

available and your holds can carry.
A - Take All: this command cycles through 1, 2 and 3, taking as much as your
holds can carry.
D - Destroy Planet: this command will allow you to try and destroy the planet
you are landed on. A small defense force will challenge you when you do
this. Be careful...
L - Leave: this command will take you back to the mainmenu and save the
planet's status.
I - Increase Productivity: this command will, for a modest fee, all you to
